Tyndall researchers hosted climate chats at the Manchester Museum

As part of Green Great Britain Week, Tyndall researchers (Dr Sarah Mander, Angela Mae Minas, Samira Garcia Freites, Velma Mukoro, and Chris Walsh) hosted a ‘Climate Chats’ stand in the Living Worlds section of Manchester Museum on October 16.

The Tyndall team were in Manchester Museum for the day using items from around the museum to talk to members of the public about the impacts of climate change and potential mitigation strategies. This was part of a wider initiative taking place across a number of northern universities (including Leeds and Newcastle). The team particularly focused on potential changes people could make to their daily lives, especially through political engagement. There was lots of interest in contacting politicians, whose constituencies ranged widely from the leafy suburbs of London all the way to Bulgaria.
As part of the activity a number of members of the public also filled in surveys on their perceptions of climate change, feeding into a wider piece of work on climate change communication. The public also contributed questions for 'Climate Question Time', an event taking place live in Leeds Civic Hall (and on the University of Leeds YouTube channel, both live and following the event) at 8.30pm on Thursday October 18. Dr Sarah Mander will be part of that panel as well.
