Research informs Scotland’s Circular Economy Strategy development

Dr Alejandro Gallego Schmid, Reader in Circular Economy and Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment at the University of Manchester, has contributed to shaping recommendations for Scotland’s Circular Economy Strategy, several of which have been incorporated into the emerging policy framework.

His contribution supported the integration of evidence-based circular economy principles aimed at driving systemic change, strengthening environmental outcomes, and enhancing long-term societal resilience.

Working alongside leading researchers including Claudia E. Henninger, Jane Wood, and Libby Allen, Dr. Gallego Schmid helped ensure that the strategy reflects interdisciplinary insights and robust scientific evidence. The strategy represents a significant step toward embedding resource efficiency, innovation, and sustainability across Scotland’s systems, with continued engagement expected to support its effective implementation.
