Party conference season

26 October 2023

Tyndall researchers took part in the Party Conference season, both at the Conservative Conference in Manchester and the Labour Conference in Liverpool.

Angela Mae Minas and Maria Sharmina spoke at the Conservative Party Conference fringe events as part of Policy@Manchester's series of events. Angela's talk was aimed at councillors who support local authorities in achieving climate targets, and focused on the role of co-benefits in decision making for low carbon transitions. She also introduced the CAST Carbon and Co-benefits Decision Support Tool.

Fringe event panel at the Labour Party conference

Maria's Conservative Conference event focused on improving the UK's energy security, recent changes to the Net Zero strategy, and what the new DESNZ Secretary of State should prioritise in her first 100 days. Other members of the panel included David Duguid MP and Nina Skorupska, CEO of the Renewable Energy Association (REA).

Maria was also on a panel at a fringe event on green growth at the Labour Party Conference. The event was organised by the Young Fabians' Environment Network and Economy and Finance Network. The panel discussed financial regulations, the backlash against ESG (environmental, social and governance) investments, delivering a just transition, the viability of de-growth as a policy idea, and more.
